A seven-year-old boy has been awarded £6.6m in clinical negligence compensation after suffering life changing birth injuries.
The young boy has been left with brain damage sustained during his delivery at St George's Hospital in London. His severe injuries have left him without functional speech and unable to stand or walk.
The boy and his family, from Tooting in South-West London, launched a claim for clinical negligence compensation against St George's Healthcare NHS Trust to help cover care costs and financial losses as a result of the injuries.
The High Court heard that the injuries suffered mean that the boy will never be able to live independently and will require round the clock care for the rest of his life.
The NHS Trust admitted liability for the child's birth injuries in March 2006 and has now been ordered to pay an initial sum of £2.7 million in clinical negligence compensation as well as annual payments to cover the boy's care costs for the rest of his life.
