Medical negligence solicitors who represented the birth injury claim of a Bristol teenager have succeeded in securing the boy a "substantial" but undisclosed sum of compensation.
Although the defendant in the case, a city GP, did not admit liability for the birth injury claim, a judge at the High Court hearing in London succeeded in overseeing a "compromise settlement" between the two parties.
The boy was born with severe learning difficulties caused by brain haemorrhages he suffered in the aftermath of a placental abruption, a condition where the placenta ruptures and separates from the womb. Compensation payouts for such injuries frequently reach seven-figure sums.
Addressing the boy's family, the judge said, "It has not been easy, but I hope this makes things easier for you. This is a significant sum which should make a difference to his life."
The judge also said that the family of the 18-year-old "should be able to breathe a sigh of relief" and move on" following the resolution of the birth injury claim.
