A birth injury claim settlement has been awarded to a boy who suffered medical negligence during his birth at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
The boy, now 7, who suffered delays that caused him to be deprived of oxygen will be awarded a multi-million pound sum under the terms of his birth injury claim as well as index-linked payments for the rest of his life.
He is now paralysed and suffers impaired speech but is thought to have full intellectual capacity.
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust accepted liability for the birth injury claim. Their QC commented, "Whilst money can never replace what has been lost, this settlement will provide financial security and remove one great worry from this family's lives."
While the judge who oversaw the negligence compensation case said that the "award of damages can in no way compensate for the injury this little boy has suffered, but it is to be hoped that this settlement will make the family's life easier in the future."
She added, "I wish this boy and his family well and I thank everyone who has been involved in achieving a settlement of this case."
