Welder wins lifting injury claim

Back injury compensation has been awarded to a welder who suffered a slipped disc and sciatic nerve damage in a lifting accident.

The 63-year-old had been working as a Network Rail track welder when he fell while lifting a piece of equipment.

Despite attempting to return to work, the man was forced to take medical retirement so instructed a personal injury solicitor to pursue a claim for back injury compensation.

The claimant commented, "I worked in that job for over 30 years but I will never be able to return to it. Some days I find just sitting still difficult, so I can't even do a desk job. This compensation comes as a great relief as it will pay for the private healthcare I received on my back. There was a long waiting list on the NHS and because I was in so much pain I decided it would be quicker to go private."

While the work accident solicitor who represented the man's claim said, "The employer failed to comply with manual handling regulations or conduct an adequate risk assessment on the task."

The back injury compensation settlement, worth £37,000, was reached out of court.
