A 79-year-old widow from Plymouth has received £140,000 asbestos compensation following the death of her husband from mesothelioma in March 2006.
The deceased man was exposed to the deadly industrial fibres while working as an engine fitter at a naval base in the city between 1947 and 1957.
Liability for the asbestos compensation claim was accepted by the Ministry of Defence.
The personal injury lawyer who represented the widow's claim commented said that the case reminds us all of "the legacy of asbestos continues to haunt those who worked in conditions which were polluted with the dangerous dust.
He added that the asbestos compensation settlement was justified, saying, "It is only right that where people have suffered the harmful effects, many having paid with their lives, that they and their family members are compensated to the full extent of the law."
