A 6-year-old boy from Warwickshire whose left leg was amputated has been awarded £900,000 in medical negligence compensation.
The boy, who also suffers from Down's syndrome, was just three weeks old when his left leg was removed by surgeons at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester due to a blood clot.
His parents launched a claim for medical negligence compensation, stating that the young boy would have only lost his toes if the blood clot had been spotted sooner and treated immediately.
The young boy and his family were awarded £900,000 in compensation from the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, which were not represented in court.
Speaking after the hearing the parents stated that they would be using the medical negligence compensation to pay for private medical treatment for their son, who is likely to need several operations on his leg before he reaches adulthood.
The compensation will also go towards a new house without stairs and with a wet room in order to help with the boy's day-to-day care requirements.
