A Sheffield woman has received £1,700 in an out-of-court settlement after an accident at work left her with an ongoing shoulder injury.
The 41-year-old woman badly strained a muscle in her shoulder while moving heavy boxes in 2006. The boxes weighed up to 22kg, which exceeds health and safety guidelines.
The technologies worker said she had not been given correct training or equipment to move the boxes.
She said: "My injuries are still causing me pain and discomfort months after they were originally caused at work. After my experiences I want businesses to do more to protect their employees. My accident was preventable."
The woman's personal injury solicitor said, "While we are happy to have recovered damages for [our client], this situation should never have occurred in the first place.
"Safety rules are in place for a reason and businesses have a duty to protect their staff. In this case a proper assessment should have been carried out.
"Manual handling is one of the most common sources of injury at work, but one of the easiest to avoid. These injuries could easily be excluded from the workplace."
Representatives of the technologies company were unavailable to comment about the accident at work.
