Alnwick Magistrates Court has issued a fine to a quarry company for health and safety breaches related to an accident at work.
The May 12 2008 accident at work happened when a worker from Northumberland suffered arm and shoulder injuries after having his arm sucked into the top of an incline surveyor during a routine inspection of the machine's head drum.
Prosecuting health and safety inspector Bruno Porter commented, "This is a case of having inadequate guarding on very dangerous plant and increasing the risk further with a trip hazard. "Employers and operators of plant must ensure they monitor the condition of the plant to ensure all their plant is properly guarded. In quarries and other hard environments, the machines are powerful and unforgiving."The guarding and other safety arrangements must be checked regularly to make sure workers remain protected."
The company responsible for the accident at work was ordered to pay fines and legal costs totaling around £14,000.
The man who suffered injury incident has already received an undisclosed sum of no win, no fee compensation.
