An employee working for a chemical company based in Runcorn could be entitled to make a compensation claim after having an accident at work in which he suffered damage to his hand.
The 58-year-old worker was operating machinery when his gloved hand became caught and was crushed, causing him personal injury.
The company appeared before magistrates where it admitted a breach in Section 2 (1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act, after failing to ensure the safety of its workers.
As a result the company was fined £12,000 and was ordered to pay £6,000 towards the cost of the prosecution.
An investigator at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) commented, "New guidance was introduced nearly six years ago on not wearing gloves while using metalworking machines, but [the company] failed to keep up to date with the latest health and safety advice."
Now that his employer has been found liable for the accident at work, the worker could make a compensation claim for his personal injury.
