The families of four men who worked as building contractors but died in an accident at work, may be able to make work accident compensation claims on their behalf.
The group of men were employed to work on a job for a factory in Great Yarmouth in Norfolk. While working in the four metre deep foundations of the building, the steel structure above them collapsed.
A crane and nine fire crews attended the site of the accident to free the men from where they had been trapped, unfortunately all four of the workers died at the scene.
An inquiry has been launched into the collapse of the structure by both the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The site was assessed by the HSE and the police.
The Detective Chief Inspector from the investigation team expects the assessment of the incident to take a few weeks.
"The aim of our investigation is to establish the full circumstances around what happened on the site," he explains.
If anyone is found liable after the site has been examined, they could be fined by the HSE, and families of the accident at work victims could claim compensation from the guilty party for the loss of their loved ones.
