Wrongly convicted man makes compensation claim
The foster father of murdered schoolgirl Billie-Jo Jenkins is preparing to make a compensation claim after he was finally cleared of her killing.
Sion Jenkins served six years in jail after he was convicted of battering the 13-year-old with a tent peg at their family home in Hastings, East Sussex in 1997, causing massive head injuries that resulted in her death. But the 48-year-old has since been set free after the jury at a third murder trial failed to reach a verdict at the Old Bailey.
The former deputy head teacher has now instructed solicitors to prepare a case to sue the Government for hundreds of thousands of pounds in lost earnings. He also stands to make a considerable sum of money from the media bidding war that is bound to soon begin to secure exclusive interview rights.
Experts have revealed that Jenkins has a compelling case for a compensation claim and his solicitor, Neil O’May told the press, “There is the issue of compensation from the Home Office for the lost years and which would be based on a miscarriage of justice.
“Then there may be civil proceedings against the police for their failure to carry out their public duties.”
