A woman who tripped on a paving stone noted by the council as having a ‘minor defect' has been awarded a four-figure sum for her accident claim.
Anne Mullane, 48, of Milton Keynes, suffered serious personal injuries when she tripped on paving outside Abbey House on Grafton Gate East in March 2003.
In the fall, Miss Mullane sustained a wrist and neck injury and decided to make a personal injury accident claim after spending nearly £2,500 visiting physiotherapists and chiropractors.
She said, "My life has changed quite a bit, I used to walk quite a lot which I can't do now, and gardening is something which I absolutely love but I can't do that either.
"I think the pavements in Milton Keynes are an absolute disgrace."
At Milton Keynes County Court it was discovered that the council had inspected the paving slab just six weeks before the accident and had noted it as having a slight defect.
Judge Tetlow said the council was closing its eyes to the dangers of the paving slab and the possible injuries pedestrians may have sustained from tripping on it.
Miss Mullane won her accident claim and was awarded a six figure sum in personal injury compensation.
