A teenager has been awarded £2,000 in an out of court settlement after his finger was crushed in an accident at work.
Luke Peace, 19, of Sheffield, contacted personal injury solicitors after he sustained a severe finger injury whilst working as a junior clerk at Transtar International Freight Forwarders in Attercliffe, Sheffield.
The work accident happened in April 2005 as Mr Peace assisted a delivery driver load a steal bar onto a lorry.
As the two men carried each end of the bar, the delivery driver dropped his end leaving Mr Peace to carry its full weight. The 19-year-old fell to the ground and the bar crushed his right middle finger.
Mr Peace sustained a serious hand injury and decided to make an accident claim by contacting personal injury solicitors.
Lisa Fairclough, of Irwin Mitchell, who represented Mr Peace, said, “During Mr Peace’s employment, he did not receive any manual handling training. The injuries he sustained were as a result of his lack of manual handling training coupled with the delivery driver failing to give any warning of his actions.”
Mr Peace was awarded £2,000 for his injury claim after being left with permanent damage to his finger.
