The owner of a bull terrier which savaged a teenage boy has been jailed for 16 weeks and ordered to pay £3,000 in personal injury compensation.
The Coventry family of the 13-year-old boy attacked by the terrier contacted personal injury solicitors after their son suffered a serious leg injury from a severe dog bite.
The boy was playing football with his friends at the park when the dog’s owner, Atif Khan, let the dog off its lead for a run.
As he walked home, the boy realised the terrier was following him and tried to hide behind a parked car but the terrier followed him and took bite out of his leg.
Ian Ball prosecuting, said, “One neighbour who assisted the boy said the injuries were so severe she shielded his eyes and another person said it looked like he had been attacked by a shark.”
Shenaz Muzaffer, defending, said Mr Khan regretted what had happened and was willing to pay personal injury compensation for the dog attack.
Judge Christopher Hodson said the dog would be destroyed because it was a risk to members of the public.
