A two-vehicle accident in Sussex has resulted in three people being taken to hospital, one with a suspected spinal cord injury.
The accident happened when a truck collided with a Hackney carriage on Moat Road in East Grinstead. The truck driver was unhurt, but the people in the taxi were more seriously injured.
The driver of the taxi, who had a head injury, was airlifted to hospital by helicopter after the roof had been cut from the car. He is believed to be in a stable condition at East Surrey Hospital.
He had been carrying two female passengers in his cab at the time of the road accident. The elderly lady who had been sitting in the front seat suffered no bodily injuries but is said to have been suffering from shock.
She was taken to East Surrey Hospital along with the back seat passenger, who had possible spinal cord injuries and whiplash.
A spokesman for Sussex Ambulance commented, "We sent three ambulances, three cars and the helicopter, Hotel 900, was scrambled. The helicopter landed in the leisure centre playing fields."
The road was closed for over three hours following the road traffic accident, whilst investigations into the crash were carried out.
