A severely brain injured young man has been awarded £2.35 million after a successful compensation claim against the NHS.
26-year-old Andre Crofton suffered diffuse brain damage as the result of a delay in undertaking the repair of a heart defect, and his compensation claim was based on the fact that he will never be able to lead a normal life.
Both cerebral hemispheres were affected and he now has the mental age of a young child. He is only able to walk short distances, and even then only with support from somebody else. His vision is so now so poor that he is registered blind, he also has limited use of his arms and his language development and usage is that of a child.
Following his brain injury, Andre is completely dependant on others for all of his care needs and the successful compensation claim will now ensure that his future is more comfortable.
Julia Hurstfield, who handled Crofton’s case, said, "Whilst the £2.35 million in compensation is important for this claimant, because it will secure and safeguard his future, the basis upon which his compensation award has been made is just as important, not only for Andre, but also for many others who are perusing an NHS clinical negligence compensation claim."
