Baywatch star saved from tragedy following neck injury

Former Baywatch actress Brooke Burns has revealed how she would almost certainly have died were it not for the quick-thinking heroics of a friend. The 27 year-old suffered a serious neck injury when diving into a swimming pool at her luxury US home in November 2005, and was saved by a friend who had only come around to use her bathroom.

Finding her severely injured in the pool after smashing her head on a wayward surfboard, the friend, a paramedic fireman, wrapped a wet towel around her neck, keeping her still and floating in the water until an ambulance arrived. She was then rushed to Los Angeles’ Cedars Sinai hospital where doctors confirmed the extent of her neck injuries, diagnosing a badly broken neck.

Paying tribute to her rescuer, the ex-fiancée of Bruce Willis said, “He saved my life. If it had been anyone else who tried to move me, I would definitely be at least half-paralysed, if not completely quadriplegic.”

Her problems didn’t end there, however, as she had an allergic reaction to medication prescribed by medical staff. Brooke explained, “I was throwing up profusely with a broken neck, which wasn’t fun.”

But it hasn’t been all doom and gloom for the Hollywood actress, who, since her neck injury has grown closer to ex-husband Julian McMahon. The couple, who divorced in 2001, have a five year-old daughter together, and sources say that a reconciliation could be on the cards.

Miss Burke is now well on the road to recovering from her personal injuries and is due to start filming a new TV series, Pepper Dennis, in the next few weeks.
